A Brief Statement Re Linux.org.ph

Over the past few weeks I had been reviving linux.org.ph. I started by asking help first, then a week later gathered the troops (we are 9 strong now!) and am now into discussions and setting out goals. There's some coding and meeting ahead, but we're on our way.

But before proceeding any further I'd like to share an important reason why I am doing this. I wrote the other day about how important it is for one to write what motivates / demotivates someone, and realized I had been wanting in that department. Well, here is what motivates me:

I received this invitation weeks ago. Drupal, the open source software that I have come to love and owe a great deal to, is now being used as a marketing tool to promote one of their products (probably some fucking webserver).

No. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. A THOUSAND TIMES. NEVER. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO.

NO!

Clearly, we have failed. Clearly, whatever it is that has kept us from spreading our belief has won over our resolve, and now we suffer the ignonimy of having the enemy 'sponsor' our own events for us.

I had known MS was sponsoring these things, specifically for local PHP / MYSQL groups, in the past. I even went to one last year when I set out to meet some of the groups leaders at SM MOA (not knowing the event was an MS one). I figured if it worked for them then that's their business, since I assume they knew what they were doing.

But DRUPAL? Hell FUCKING NO, FUCKING way, FUCK YOU very much. MS is NOT going to use Drupal to further whatever the FUCK its trying to sell. Not while I use and believe in the principles that have allowed it to even exist! If the FUCKING local drupal group isn't gonna FUCKING do anything about this, then I.FUCKING.WILL.

There, that's it. So if and when I feel tired and lacking in inspiration to work on my advocacy, all I need to do is remember that FUCKING invitation, and I am energized enough to wrestle a bull. Just needed to let all that out. Now to get back to work. ktnxlater.
