Ubuntu is Sheldon Cooper's Favorite 'Linux Based Operating System'

Dr. Sheldon Cooper is a character from the hit show The Big Bang Theory. Obviously a geek, he is caught here saying the words 'Oh Ubuntu, you're my favorite Linux - based operating system.'

I've always wondered why, when trying to reach out to the obviously strong geek market, producers and marketers don't mention open source software and other items of uber - geekery more often. The last time I can remember a significant mention was made was when Trinity of the Matrix series used NMAP, an open source port scanner, to hack into.. uhmm.. whatever she was hacking into (you gotta admit the Matrix wasn't really strong on plot).

Here it is:

Riveting stuff.

And the thing is, movie producers don't have to pay royalties when mentioning these, so what's keeping them?

Anyway, my one issue about The Big Bang Theory's attempt to get some geek cred is that I don't think a geek would actually say 'Linux based operating system'. Rather, you'd just say 'my favorite distro' or at least 'my favorite operating system'.
Yes, I am hard to please.

You guys did not understand

You guys did not understand the essential part of the joke.

"Who uses Ubuntu or any other linux distro on an Alien Ware (designed for gaming). Only Sheldon would do that"

That was extreme funny.

well you're right about that,

well you're right about that, I didn't get that the way you saw it at all. Probably because I don't find it that unusual, and even if it is, it's not all that funny.
