Cignal Digital TV Adds Sense To Buying An HDTV. Wives Weep.

It's now officially getting harder for your wife to keep you from getting an HDTV! Yesterday, I was at the launch of Cignal TV as they announced their arrival via the free airing of Game 5 of the NBA 2008-09 Finals.

So here's the down low:

Media Scape is a subsidiary of PLDT and offers direct - to - home (DTV) services and MY TV digital video broadcasting - hand held (DVB-H) service in the Philippines.

HD means true 1080x1920 HD resolution, and they have 3 plans:

  1. Cignal Basic (20 standard definition channels for P390.00 / month, 4,700 setup fee)
  2. Cignal HD (2 HD Channels for P450.00 / month, 6,500 setup fee)
  3. Cignal Combo (Cignal Basic + Cignal HD for P790.00 / month, 4,800 setup fee)

There's also a p1,000 installation fee, and you'll get these things:

So yeah, you can now buy that ridiculously priced HD LCD TV you've always wanted either by saying 'But honey, there's already local HD service!', followed by 'We can watch your cooking shows in true 1080x1920 resolution!, and 'You can see the lines off of your fave celebs face!, the success of any of which depends on how gullible she is much she loves you.

I kid of course. Frankly it sounds like a good deal. If you're already fortunate enough to have one of those 40", 50" or 60" beauties, a P390 ~ P790 / month subscription plus +-5k for the box and 1k installation fee probably isn't gonna stop you from going all the way.

The only thing that would for me, is the quality of the shows available, which frankly we can't do anything about here in Wowowee country. But then again if you take your tv / home movie viewing seriously, this really is the way to go.
