Iran Will Bomb You And Give You Free Software

Due to dwindling sources of illegally obtainable aka 'pirated' software due to torrent sites getting shut down, the average software pirate isn't having it as easy as before - until now.

This article from Torrentfreak explains that Iran's copyright laws are unique in the sense that it protects internal copyrights but not those from abroad. They can therefore 'share movies, music and applications as much as they like, as long as the copyright is not owned by an Iranian'.

I checked one of the links provided, and voila:

Kikay Exchange's Venn Diagram

It was KE's 4th birthday the other day, and so to mark the occasion here's something to commemorate it. This venn diagram indicates what we (me and my wife Jill) occasionally like to joke about.

ke venn diagram

The right side are from actual comments from a contest she held recently where she asked readers, aside from what their favorite posts were, what kind of posts they were looking for.

Normally, I Despise Beauty Contests

I mean, really, it's a 'pagandahan ng babae' contest, right? As shallow as it gets. It's a sporting event with stats and everything, except they wouldn't admit that if it killed them. And don't talk to me about charity and all that. Donald Trump could just as easily do all those things sans fanfare.

I honestly hoped I would see the day exercises in superficiality and sexism like these would disappear within my lifetime. Until I saw this:

Rickrolled (Finally) Explained

I neither know of 4chan, 4chan founder Christopher Poole, what they do and / or how they ended up in court. What I do know is testimony gold when I see one:

4chan founder explains rickrolled

Those are the questions he was asked during his testimony, where he explains a number of internet terms which therefore makes it read like an FAQ or something. Full testimony here.

Local Government's Facebook Efforts vs. Congressman's Anti-Social Networking Stance

On one hand there's a Congressman who wants the government to stop employees from using Twitter, Facebook, and (in effect) the Internet altogether, stating amazing facts such as:

“The government stands to lose an estimated P103,158,000 every month for electricity expenses alone if all the estimated 900,000 government employees use government computers for at least two hours of unauthorized online social networking activities,”.

On the other hand, the 'Laguna Police Provincial Office' (I got that from their email address: lagunapoliceprovincialoffice@yahoo.com), launched a Facebook page entitled 'Laguna Most Wanted Criminals', which (you guessed it), shows pictures of Laguna's most wanted criminals.

Dell Ad Proves What We've Known All Along About Apple

This Dell chart I got from Maximum PC re how much Apple overprices its products isn't exactly a surprise for most people who've known Apple vs Dell (or all PC manufacturers for that matter), but it's a nice helpful guide anyway. Click to see a bigger pic.

Report Confirms That As Far As Men Are Concerned, The Internet Is For Porn

Ok fine I made that title up.

What brought it up though is a global report that can well fit into the 'what we already know' department, entitled 'Women Spend 30% More Time On Social Web Than Men'.

Amongst it's findings:

  • 76& of women visit social networking sites vs. 70% of men.
  • Although women account for 48% of total unique visitors to social networking sites, they consume 57% of pages and account for nearly 57% of total minutes spent on these sites.
  • No matter what region, women are more social than men on the web, especially in Latin America with 94% of females online.
  • In the US, 56% of adult women use the 'net to keep in touch with people compared to 46% men.

RP Car Thieves More Social Than Smart

In the 'Probably shouldn't have Facebooked or Twittered' department, local cops nabbed car thieves and their friends via their FB and Twitter accounts, which they apparently used to communicate plans.

SG Starcraft Buyer Cries His Way To First

This probably doesn't help the rep of Starcraft fans, but here it is anyway. The Straits Times reports thousands showed up to buy Starcraft II at their launch, an event important enough to bring tears to 23yo. Nicol Tan, the first in line.

congratulations la

Nokia Makes Strong Case For Youth Market With The C3

Had a great time seeing old friends at the well - attended Nokia C3 Launch last week, where we were fairly well entertained by the school motif they adopted to launch the C3.
